Alex Bowman is set to replace the seven-time Cup Sereis champion Jimmie Johnson in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

While it just seems like a change in the car number. Bowman would have a big gap to fill the legacy associated with the number. As for Johnson, he seems confident in his former teammate’s capacity to do so.

In a video posted by the primary sponsor of the No. 48 car, Ally Racing, Johnson left a note to his successor which read: “Crush it, bro!”

Bowman will be entrusted with the task of driving the No. 48 to the victory lane. It has been a while since Johnson’s last Cup race win, which came back in 2017. Bowman has two Cup wins to his name, one each in the past two seasons.

Johnson had previously reiterated his faith in the former No. 88 HMS driver.

“To see him develop as a driver and continue to apply himself more and more each and every year, to continue to mature and grow. He’s earned the right,” the seven-time champion said.

As for the No. 88, it was replaced by the No. 5 car, which will be driven by Kyle Larson.
