Denise Hodges Garland

Denise Hodges Garland, age 58, of Newland, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Glenbridge Health Care in Boone.

Denise was born on July 20, 1964 in Danville City County, Virginia, a daughter of Walker (Carol) Hodges of Newland and the late Mary Calloway Hodges.

Denise graduated from Avery County High School and worked various jobs over her life, beginning at TRW and then to BAXTER, where she worked for Marriott as a Supervisor for the cleaning department. She worked for a period of time as a Secretary for Medi Home Care and then worked for the Scotchman in Banner Elk. She enjoyed working with her plants and in her flower gardens.

She was preceded in death by her Mother, Mary Ellen Hodges in 2005.

In addition to her father, Denise leaves behind to cherish her memory her longtime companion and caregiver, Jeff Wise of Newland, NC.

Services for Denise Garland will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 beginning at 1:00 pm from the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Vance officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm on Saturday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in the Calloway Cemetery.
