As of August 12th, the CDC modified the Emergency Use Authorizations (EAUs) for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Compassion Health Care, Inc. (CHC) recently offered a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccines to those individuals who are considered immunocompromised, including those with a range of conditions such as recipients of organ or stem cell transplants, people with advanced or untreated HIV infection, active recipients or treatment for cancer, and more according to the CDC list of conditions found on their website.

“Both of our medical sites, Caswell Family Medical Center (CFMC) in Yanceyville, and James Austin Health Center (JAHC) in Eden have been actively providing the third dose to people in our communities who fall under the definition of ‘immunocompromised’ individuals per the CDC. We are committed to helping our communities slow the spread of COVID-19. We realize that not everyone is ready to get vaccinated, but our hope is that people will become less hesitant now that the FDA has approved the Pfizer vaccine. This is a huge step forward in the fight against COVID.” – William Crumpton, CEO, Compassion Health Care, Inc.

The FDA-approved Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine which is now marketed as “Comirnaty” is available at both JAHC and CFMC. Both medical sites are offering first and second doses of both Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech to individuals in specified age groups. Those age groups for Pfizer-BioNTech are 12 years of age and up and for Moderna, 18 years of age and up. The third dose of Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech will still be provided to immunocompromised individuals in those same age groups only until it is otherwise cleared for all individuals. CFMC and JAHC also offer the Johnson & Johnson Vaccine that only requires one dose at this point for individuals 18 and older.
