On what should have been an evening of fun, things quickly turned for the worse at the Danville-Pittsylvania County Fair last night.
"There was a fatal shooting last night," Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor told the Star-Tribune around 8 a.m. this morning.
The sheriff's office confirmed the victim was a child. Sources indicate the shooting took place in the parking lot of the county fairgrounds, located at 2400 Cavalier Rd. in Ringgold.
The fair opened Friday night, Sept. 17, and is still slated to continue nightly until Saturday, Sept. 25, until further notice.
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is now asking the public for information surrounding the overnight shooting.
The Pittsylvania County Crimestoppers has offered up to $5,000 in reward offerings for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for this incident.
The victim's identity is not being released due to the age of the victim.
