On Friday October 9, 2020 at around 11:15 a.m., Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to calls of shots fired from a vehicle into several homes in the area of Benaja Rd. near Capital Lp. in Reidsville. Callers were familiar with the suspect and gave the vehicle description as a Burgundy in color Nissan truck.

While responding to the area, Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputy Z. Warner encountered the suspect vehicle which fled when Warner attempted a vehicle stop. Deputy Warner gave chase and a brief vehicle pursuit ensued ending at Cunningham Mill Rd. near Spearman Rd.. The suspect stopped and began firing a Rockingham County Sheriff's Detective. The Detective returned fire. Neither the Sheriff's Detective, nor the suspect, were struck during the gunfire exchange. The suspect was taken into custody.

Sheriff Sam Page has requested the NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) to assist with this investigation as it involved an officer discharging his firearm at the suspect.

This investigation is currently ongoing.

Waite was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Center under a $5,000,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 2nd.
