Reidsville Man Charged and Arrested for Filing a False Report to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office Following June 12th Shooting
Rockingham County Sheriff's Detective Ed Smaldone has charged and arrest WILLIE THOMAS HAIRSTON III, 20, of 212 Colonial Village Lp. Reidsville, N.C. with Filing a False Report to Law Enforcement.
On June 12, 2020, Hairston reported to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office that he had been shot in the leg by an unknown passing vehicle while he was out for a walk on Cook Florist Rd. in Reidsville. During the course of the extensive investigation, Detective Smaldone learned that Hairston had actually shot himself in the leg accidentally while stationary in a vehicle in the parking lot of Food Lion in Reidsville.
After learning that he has fabricated the story about being shot while walking on Cook Florist Rd. by a random vehicle, Detective Smaldone charged and arrested him with Filing a False Report to Law Enforcement. He was brought before a Magistrate where he was released under a $5,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7.
