Piedmont Community College (PCC) and North Carolina State University (NC State) signed an agreement to support students studying Public Safety Administration. This is the first agreement between the two institutions that assists students transferring from PCC to NC State.

In this latest agreement, students graduating from PCC with an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Public Safety Administration (PSA) with a 3.0 grade point average or higher, are guaranteed admission into the Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and the Public Sector degree program at NC State once they submit all required documents. Degrees that transfer through this agreement include an AAS in Correction Services, Law Enforcement Services, Security and Loss Prevention, and Emergency and Fire Management Services.

“In partnering with NC State University, PCC Public Safety Administration students can pursue the ‘next level’ higher education leadership degree that many public safety students and agencies find beneficial,” said Roy Allen, PCC Dean of Public Safety and Human Services. “Public safety practitioners seeking administrative advancement will quickly see how well the PSA program prepares them for a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and the Public Sector degree program at NC State, a coveted degree for public safety administrators.” 

NC State will accept transfer coursework completed at PCC as equivalent on a course-by-course basis. All PCC transfer students may receive 45-55 semester hours of academic credit for Public Safety Administration courses completed with a grade of “C” or better. Students are encouraged to work with their individual advisor to review courses and credits.

“My colleagues in the Leadership in the Public Sector program are proud to have entered into a bilateral agreement with our colleagues in the Public Safety Administration program at Piedmont Community College,” said Dr. Traciel Reid, Director of the Leadership in the Public Sector Program at NC State. “This agreement provides AAS graduates in the PSA program with a seamless pathway to attain a Bachelor’s Degree from NC State’s Leadership in the Public Sector program. We know that an AAS degree in PSA when combined with a BA degree in LPS can propel graduates into leadership positions in public sector careers.” 

Reid continued, “We hope that this bilateral agreement represents the first of future joint endeavors that connect PCC students, faculty, staff and its surrounding community with the Leadership in the Public Sector program in School of Public and International Affairs at NC State University.”

To be eligible for inclusion in this articulation agreement, PCC students must complete the Associate in Applied Science degree. Those transferring prior to completing all degree requirements may also have their coursework evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Students in this category must also meet NC State transfer admissions requirements.
