The U.S. Geological Survey reports there have been seven earthquakes in Alleghany County in the last 24 hours.

A series of tremors and aftershocks have hit Sparta since the 5.1 magnitude quake struck on Aug. 9. It was the most powerful earthquake to hit North Carolina in more than 100 years.
