It was a normal high school boys basketball game and a normal high school boys basketball holiday tournament matchup between Bartlett Yancey and Vance until entering the final minute.
Things took a turn with 1:09 left to play in the Thanksgiving Classic Championship game as a major fight that started in the stands moved into the foyer of the gym, cancelling the game with Vance (2-0) leading BY 61-56, giving the Vipers the shortened victory.
BY (2-2) earned its championship appearance after a 57-53 victory over host Person County Friday night. Person recorded the first five points of the contest and led most of the way until BY guard Omari Pinnix knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner to give the Bucs a 52-51 lead with 1:30 left to play.
Pinnix’s trey with 50 seconds remaining made it a 55-51 game and BY overcame a late technical call to hold for the close victory.
Ricky Lipscomb led the Bucs with 14 points.
