Dylan Blackstock qualified to play golf in the regionals competition after placing in the individuals category at the Mid-State 2A Conference Championship, held at Caswell Pines Country Club in Yanceyville on Monday April 15.
Five high schools faced off including Bartlett Yancey, Graham, Reidsville, Carrboro and North Carolina School of Science and Math were all present for the tournament. Severe wind and chilly temperatures wouldn’t stop the boys from representing their respective schools as the action was very competitive all afternoon.
The tournament was for the right to compete in Regionals. Two teams and four individuals including Blackstock were selected.
Other individual qualifiers include Lee Wiley (Graham), Sam Brukvoort (Carrboro), and Riley Simutumi (Carrboro).
Junye Ou from NCSSM turned in the lowest scorecard of the day shooting 39 on the front 9 and 39 on the back 9 for a total of 78. Rob Landry (NCSSM) shot an 84 for second on the day and Zach Barber (Reidsville) shot an 86 for third place on the day.
For teams, NCSSM came out victorious with a low score of 1350. Reidsville High School finished second as a team with a total of 1363.
For their efforts, Reidsville and NCSSM both progress to Regionals, which will be held on April 26 at a location yet to be determined.
