Bartlett Yancey increased its winning streak to four games with a thrilling, 22-20 victory over East Chapel Hill Friday night.
With the win, BY (4-0) is off to its best start in nearly 20 years.
Senior quarterback Chase Johnson, senior running back Jacob Scales and sophomore quarterback Brendan Nunnally all added scores on the ground for the Bucs. Scales and Nunnally also added 2-point conversions for good measure.
Junior wide receiver Luis Berlanga caught five passes for 60 yards, while sophomore wide receiver Jayquan Morton recorded 60 receiving yards on just three catches.
Nunnally, normally a wide receiver, entered the game under center after Johnson went down with an injury, added 40 rushing yards and caught six passes for the Bucs.
Scales, along with his rushing score, picked up over 150 yards on the ground.
Junior defensive tackle/defensive end Ahmad Byrd chipped in with seven solo tackles, including two for a loss. He also threw in a quarterback hurry for good measure.
Junior defensive end Miles Jefferson recorded six solo tackles, two for a loss, and also added a quarterback rush as well. Sophomore middle linebacker Dylan Wall picked up five solo tackles and forced a fumble, while Scales added four solo tackles along with three assisted tackles. Junior defensive back Quentin Barley added an interception for the Bucs.
“It was a very emotional win and I’m extremely proud of our team for being so resilient,” said BY coach Joshua Brumfield. “It was a pretty special win.”
