Betty Ann Totten Speights

Mrs. Betty Ann Totten Speights departed this life on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.  She was a native of Caswell County and a resident of Alexandria, Virginia for ten years, before returning to North Carolina in 1984. 

Mrs. Speights was a graduate of Caswell County High School, Class of 1963 and Winston-Salem State University.  She was formerly employed by the Prince George County, Fairfax County Schools Systems of Virginia, the North Carolina School System and American Express. 

Being nurtured by the influences of a Christian family resulted in her becoming baptized at the Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church at a tender age.  In 1973, she married Pinkney Speights and from this union, a son was born, Terrance Speights.  Her parents, Pearl Palmer Totten and Theotis Totten; brother, Lee Donnell Totten, preceded her in death. 

Mrs. Speights leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted son, Terrance Speights (Linnis); grandchildren, Daquan, MeKiah, Jeremiah and Sinnil; sisters, Benita Peace (Milton), Vern Tolson (Jerry), Debra and Linda Chaney; brother, Carlton Totten (Ingretta); aunts, Evelyn Totten and Cordelia Palmer; uncle, Herman Palmer, Jr.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Totten; special roommate at New Beginnings, Susan; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 from the Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church, 4777 Highway 158 West.  The family visitation will be Saturday from 11 until 11:30 a.m. at the church.  Her remains are reposing at Johnson & Sons.
