Crash leaves one dead another one injured

A head-on collision involving two cars left one person dead and another one injured on Monday morning, July 8 on NC 86 in Yanceyville. Both of the drivers were residents of the county.

A head-on collision involving two cars on NC 86 in Yanceyville, resulted in a fatality and injuring another driver on Monday morning, July 8.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, they responded to a call regarding the incident located just outside of Yanceyville near the Virginia State Line.

Marcus Cook, 67, of Blanch was traveling north on NC 86 when for unknown reasons crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet driven by Young Han Kim of Providence.

Before the crash Young was traveling south on NC 86 when he was hit by Cook.

His truck came to a stop on the side of the roadway and Cook's Oldsmobile came to rest in the middle of the roadway.

Cook was pronounced deceased at 11:24 a.m. just a few hours after the crash. He was a Danville native who spent a majority of his life in Caswell County graduating from Bartlett Yancey High School.

Kim is the pastor of Shady Grove Methodist Church and is currently in Cone Hospital where he has undergone extensive surgeries and is recovering.

The State Highway Patrol deemed both vehicles totaled and were towed away from the scene.
