Carolina Sunrock LLC, a subsidiary of Sunrock Group Holdings Corporation, a local family-owned construction and materials supplier and highway contractor, has announced a planned expansion to Caswell County.

Carolina Sunrock’s Prospect Hill Quarry and Distribution Center will be located on a 600-plus acre site between Ridgeville and Wrenn Roads. The company successfully operates three additional quarries in Granville, Person and Vance Counties.

The Prospect Hill site is home to a natural abundance of high-quality granite and natural sand, which are both very important to construction projects in this region,” said Bryan M. Pfohl, owner and chairman and CEO of Carolina Sunrock. “We are committing to building a state-of-the-art-facility in an area that is strategically located to service the growing needs of Caswell County and its neighbors.”

A precise opening date has not been established. Carolina Sunrock will implement best practices to determine the optimal way to build and operate the quarry while minimizing the impact on the environment and community. These best practices will include maintaining an undisturbed buffer surrounding the property boundary, and the use of berms, vegetation and trees.

The company recently submitted its mining permit application to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Division of Energy, Mineral and Land Resources for the Carolina Sunrock Prospect Hill Quarry and Distribution Centeer. All quarry operations require a mining permit from NCDEQ that includes consultations and permitting from the N.C. Department of Air Quality, N.C. Division of Water Resources, N.C. Wildlife Commission, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and N.C. Division of Parks & Recreation.

To engage with the community and answer resident questions regarding further details about the Prospect Hill site, the company will host a Community Information Session on Sept. 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Prospect Hill Fire Station located in Prospect Hill. The session is free and open to the public. To register for this event, residents are asked to send an email to prospecthill@thesunrockgroup.comor call Gregg Bowler, executive vice president and COO, at 919-747-6313.
